DEINO 1 YEAR | FEMALE | 19" | 40 LBS | ACD/HUSKY MIX | FACECLAIM PERSONALITY_ Rebellious with a healthy dose of teenage angst, Deino is a bit of a menace amongst her peers. The husky part of her heritage has her constantly yowling about every inconvenience brought her way while the cattle dog instincts drive her to chase and nip her fellow canines. She is the living embodiment of what some would deem a "drama queen" though those close to her may hope she eventually grows out of these annoying tendencies. Deino prefers to live life in the moment. She has a sense of mindless courage about her with the idea often held by the youth of being invincible. While initially shy and wary around strangers, once her trust has been earned she is likely to be the life of the party. HISTORY_ Deino was born to an accidental litter out on vast amounts of farmland. As a young whelp she enjoyed the freedom to explore and adventure their territory - terrorizing the chickens, chasing the goats, barking at the cattle, and escaping the elements in the safety of the barn. These memories remain locked in the depths of her mind, only emerging as short flashes to quell her near constant anxieties. The only individuals she has some semblance of a memory for are her mother and another male litter mate. Was he her only one? She could not recall. At eight weeks old she was taken from the countryside and relocated to a small apartment occupied by two humans. Things went well enough for her during this time. There were lots of things to rip and shred and plenty of places around the enclosed space to reliably relieve herself without overstepping, though every time she partook in these activities she was heavily scolded. She also never felt the same sense of comfort she had around her birth home. There was a constant stinging in the air, almost like a static, that kept her nerves on end. Unsure of how much time had passed, things changed all at once and seemingly without warning. There was shouting constantly, prior, but nothing world changing. That is, until one of the humans left and did not return. It was strange, but Deino held out hope that she would eventually find her way home to the dog and other human. Shortly after the female human's disappearance, Deino was let outside of the apartment for the first time in months. The human had loaded her and a bunch of boxes into his vehicle and they drove. A sleepless night was had inside the cab of the vehicle but by the next day they had reached their destination. A new home. With a yard! Deino had wiggled in excitement as she was brought outdoors for the first time in what felt like forever. Finally, a chance to stretch her legs and really let loose! She watched as another dog ran excitedly around the fence line. But her dreams were shattered as a chain was wrapped around her neck, tethering her to a nearby tree. During her considerably short stay at this homestead, Deino had made friends with the fellow dog, though he regretfully could not help to free her. Eventually, the humans no longer came outside to give the two their daily rations of food and water. While the other dog was able to scavenge for a drink and something somewhat edible, Deino was trapped. Lying on the ground, too weak to move or even bark, she listened as voices filled the air from the nearby street. A chase began between the two new humans and her canine companion, ending him him leading them to her in the yard. She had growled as they approached, yes, but was secretly grateful for their interference as they loaded her and the other dog up into their truck and took them to a place filled with many dogs. It was here that she was given water and food - and she ate greedily - and slowly began to recover her strength. However, it wasn't much longer before these humans, too, no longer appeared to grant any of the caged dogs food or water. Then, the earth shook and the building crumbled. |
